A James Bond themed double deck stand for Inmarsat at Geneva Telecom. This stand was designed as an event to illustrate the many and varied locations, in out of the way places where the Inmarsat satellite technology is the only means of communication. After wide ranging discussions over a long period we dismissed various alternative proposals; a walkthrough themed event; a museum type presentation; a showroom experience. Elliott decided to present a theatrical performance of a James Bond pastiche. This was timed to link into the launch of the James Bond film "The World Is Not Enough". James Bond was the ideal subject matter. He is someone who goes to far away places where land lines are not available, where dramatic action can cut the normal means of communication and yet is someone who needs to maintain a vital link with his home base. In co-operation with a script producer we came up with a scenario centering around the exploits of James Blond. The story started off in a third world hotel bedroom, moved on to an airplane, then to a clearing in the jungle and ended up on the bridge of a ship on Lake Geneva. All the while James is communicating with 'M' back at HQ. The ship's bridge was produced in association with Transco, one of the leading manufacturers of ships bridge simulators for the navies of the world. The 8-minute show was presented every half-hour using five actors, three technicians and a battery of special effects and lighting. Whilst the show was not running the visitors were escorted onto the set and demonstrated the technology in the various environments, experiencing the products in the sort of conditions they were designed for.
